How to buy a Turkish SIM from day one, why you register the phone by IMEI and why a foreign smartphone is blocked after 120 days. Mobile and home internet in Alanya.
Why a Turkish SIM from day one
A Turkish number is needed for almost everything: the bank, a doctor appointment, delivery, navigation and SMS confirmations. Roaming eats money fast, so a local SIM is the first step after arrival.
The number also helps to open an account and handle documents that ask for a Turkish phone. The sooner you have it, the easier all the other steps go.
How to buy a SIM
You buy a SIM at an official operator store with your passport. At the airport mobile service is usually dearer, in town the choice of plans is wider. You need your passport, sometimes an address.
Get an official SIM at a store, not from hand: only this way the number is in your name and the phone can be registered legally.
Phone registration and the 120 day block
An important detail many do not know: a foreign smartphone works with a Turkish SIM for about 120 days, then it is blocked by IMEI until you register the phone and pay the set fee.
If you plan to live in Türkiye, it is worth registering the phone in advance. Otherwise one day the service simply stops and you have to sort it urgently.
Home internet
For home there is mobile internet on a SIM and home internet by cable or fibre. For a short stay mobile is handier, for a year a home plan with good speed is cheaper.
In most Alanya complexes internet is installed quickly. We will suggest a provider and plan for your district and length of stay.
