What not to ship
Furniture, major and small appliances and kitchenware almost never pay to ship across borders: freight and customs eat the difference, while Turkish brands (Beko, Vestel, Arçelik, Karaca) offer great quality at local prices, with warranty and service. Electronics on a different plug standard just add hassle.
Bulky textiles, old household bits and anything easy to buy here for reasonable money are also better left behind. Moving light saves both money and nerves in the first weeks.
What to definitely bring
Documents and their certified translations, a supply of personal medication with prescriptions, the personal items that matter to you, and anything expensive or hard to buy in Turkey for your habits. A small cash reserve for the first days before opening an account also helps.
If you move with children or pets, bring their documents, vaccinations and familiar small items. Everything else is easier and cheaper to assemble on the spot without overloading the move.
What to assemble locally turn-key
A full apartment setup is easier to assemble here: furniture, fridge, washing machine, air conditioners, TV, a kitchen starter kit. A basic 1+1 setup takes 3–7 days and starts around 80,000–120,000 TRY for furniture, with appliances on top.
