Bank account: what's required

The basics: passport, tax number and proof of address. Many banks de facto ask for a residence permit or its receipt — requirements vary branch to branch, so going to the right branch matters.

With residency the bank choice widens and high-rate lira deposits open up. Before residency, e-wallets like Papara and Ininal make life easier — they're simpler to obtain.

Payments in the first months

Cash lira is accepted everywhere; exchange rates are better at city exchange offices than the airport. Large payments — rent, deposits, furniture — are often easier by transfer, so open an account or wallet within the first weeks.

Utilities, aidat and phone bills are conveniently paid via banking apps or at PTT counters. We advise clients on the best wallet-plus-bank combination for their case and help open the account.
